ABOUT THE QUINTA

Quinta de Velude is located in the Douro region, a geographical area marked by the landscape, about an hour's journey from the city of Porto (by car, train or boat), where the international airport of the northern region of Portugal is located, as well as the recently inaugurated cruise terminal, and is therefore surrounded by a great potential for tourist itineraries, while at the same time providing an experience of authenticity lived in an 18th century Portuguese manor house immersed in the traditional landscape of the Douro Wine Region.

The house, which has been completely rehabilitated with 21st century comfort criteria, remains faithful to its ancestral values, both in its original spatiality and in the traditional use of colours, where you can see the Douro Green in the oil paints on the wood, the reds and ochres of the autumn vines on the doors and windows, or the blues of the pigments extracted from the earth and iron oxide.

The spatial fluidity promoted by the remarkable enfilade of doors and windows guarantees extraordinary natural lighting and ventilation of rare beauty, showing the ancestral wisdom of avoiding the use of air conditioning, with central heating being enough for comfort in winter, with summer full of freshness indoors.

On the upper floor there is a constant breeze and the rustling of the leaves. The sun, travelling from east to west, first bathes the house on the kitchen terrace - excellent for breakfasts and lunches where, if the summer heat is too much, it is mitigated by the coolness of the granite tanks and running water or the breeze from the poplar and chestnut trees that abound there. Afterwards, the sun settles over the whole house and pool, lingering in the south and on the threshing floor of the rooms next to the chapel, until the light from the west arrives.

The light from the west also floods the back platforms of the house and the lower floor where, in the old animal courts, which have been completely restored, we find an unexpected freshness in the hot summers of the Douro Interior. In winter, the central heating and the elegant design of the new interventions, where the warmth of the wood abounds, guarantee comfort and well-being.

This 7-hectare estate is home to an abundance of centenary trees, figs, oranges, oaks and chestnuts, as well as poplars that attest to the existence of several mines and water springs that guarantee the property's total self-sufficiency in terms of water supply.

The pool provides an excellent place for an aperitif on the terrace and perfect steps for socialising with children and, at the same time, swimming in its 16-metre length, the comfort of the latest technology in perfect symbiosis with the recycled granite from disused traditional water reserve tanks. The seams of the large pieces of granite display a unique ancestral knowledge of stone working.
